Mike in Senegal

When Mike joined the Peace Corps, he first traveled to Thiés in Senegal, which is just east of Dakar, the capital, located on the western coast [see map]  He stayed in Senegal from July 1st to August 26th, 1999.  He lived with a host family while in Thiés, consisting of a father, mother, a 19-year old sister named Awa, a 16-year old brother Pape, and a baby sister.  While in Senegal, Mike spent 10 hours a day in classes, learning French, the regional language Wolof, and training on what his duties would be once he began his volunteer work at his final destination in Ditinn, Guinea.
